BASF Makes $4.9 Billion Hostile Offer for Engelhard (Update4) (Bloomberg.com)
Jan. 3 (Bloomberg) -- BASF AG, the world's biggest chemical maker, made a $4.9 billion hostile bid for Engelhard Corp., a U.S. supplier of pollution-control devices, to expand its range of products for cars. It would be BASF's largest purchase ever.
